Better out than in...

In your best Brian Blessed voice:
"Kelvyn's Alive!"

Thank you for all the kind comments and appreciation for yesterday's wonderful sunset, they meant a lot.

If you're of a squeamish disposition then you might not want to read on, this is primarily  a journal entry for me. I think the drugs have mostly worn off, so maybe it'll make sense.

Apparently I had a bad reaction to some of the anaesthetics, I remember the throwing up, but not the nerve block. Ten hours later I'm only mildly nauseous but I still can't feel my foot - though that might be a blessing.
Thankfully the nurses now have the excessive bleeding under control - I'd not noticed the bandages turning red!
So the operation report:
All told I was in theatre for just over 90 minutes.
The piece of bone lodged in my subtalar joint was only ever visible in 6 out of 2000 scan images, so Mr P the surgeon was always clear he wouldn't really know the full extent or possibilities until he operated. Even so the size of the shard of bone he found was surprising, apparently it's graded as "damn big!"
Ever since my bad accident in '93 the ankle has ground, clicked and crunched  even though pain didn't come till the last couple of years when Mr P thinks the shard moved. He told me that at the start of the procedure it still did, when he finished it didn't seem to, so fingers crossed.
The (expected) bad news was that it had unsurprisingly done a lot of damage, so Mr P debrided and polished the joint surfaces. Apparently I also have no remaining cartilage in the joint, so he chose to drill a dozen or so micro holes into the bone surface to hopefully promote new growth. A longer recovery but maybe a better outcome. He seemed super positive, which was probably the best post op care!

The far more horrid news (those of you who know me well will wince, laugh and understand) is that for the next two weeks I have to give myself injections into my stomach. This will test me. I managed to look suitably pathetic and we won't be starting that till tomorrow!
Hopefully I'll sleep well tonight.
