Not a souvenir
Apparently I can't keep the mug.
Thank you so much for all the lovely, supportive and funny comments, they really have been appreciated.
Like anyone who's ever needed them, my appreciation for the staff here at St Michael's is huge. Apparently it's got one of the best reputations and collections of surgeons in the UK - but everyone from the cleaners to the anaesthetist have been superb.
It was a tough day, more reactions to meds and a while getting combinations right - plus learning to use crutches (don't laugh - far more complex than it seems), but everyone I met had a smile and made me feel they were 100% committed to getting things right for me.
Which was kind of incredible really - as they were also trying to understand their third change of procedures this year. Just one example; in our ward of 3 people we each had slightly different operations(which for a hospital of this size would be the norm) - so we were each assigned different nurses and orderlies. Incredibly there were people on other wards with the same ops, so the staff had to cover a lot of ground between us. Thus taking blood pressures, samples etc took 3 times as long. No nurse specialised in a type of operation, they were randomly assigned. It just looked complicated for the sake of it - and so time wasteful. Made my admiration for them even stronger.
Finally discharged in the evening - a home cooked meal, a relieved team IttH and a comfy bed, phew.
