Fredrick Charles Lambert
My grandfather (Mum's dad) was a printer. I am not certain of when this photograph was taken, the late 50s or early 60s I imagine. He used to recall type-setting newspapers and books by hand. Later in life, he took up calligraphy and found he was quite talented. His fascination with letters, fonts and words enduring. Indeed, he was an avid reader having read many of the classics and many history books. At the age of 90 he could easily beat me at the crossword - in fact he was the 'go to' person in the family if you were stuck with a crossword clue. He also loved classical music and each afternoon after lunch, he would retire to the 'front room' to play the piano. As a child I didn't appreciate how fortunate I was to be able to hear his playing.
