2016 Wednesday -- Smoke-filled Air

Two fires are burning near the region of California's Big Sur coast. This photo was taken at Ragged Point on the south end of that magnificent coastline.

Sometimes when we visit this place, we can see for miles; sometimes the air is filled with moisture, fog, and we cannot see much. Today the visibility was extremely poor due to fires.

As I strained to see up the coast, the words from the children's Disney movie keep repeating in my thoughts, "Bambi, man is in the forest." The loss of life, the destruction, and the devastation are more than sad.

This is the final week of summer for me. Next Tuesday we return to southern California, and Wednesday I report back to the campus. This has been our fourth summer enjoying California's Central Coast and preparing our retirement home for our future move to live here in Cayucos.
