‘Barbara Villiers’ was sitting in the garden during her lunch break at Falkland Palace.  Despite already being married to Roger Palmer,  King Charles II rewarded her for her ‘services’ by making her husband Earl of Castlemaine and so consequently she became a countess.  She went on to have five children by the king  and another but Charles realised that it was not his, nor her husband’s.
Five weeks after Charles' future queen, Catherine of Braganza arrived from Portugal in 1662, Barbara gave birth to a son, but after throwing a fit Catherine came to realise that this would be one of several of her husband’s illegitimate children. Barbara separated from her husband  later and had several lovers but Charles used to visit her four times a week until eventually he left her for others including Nell Gwyn.
Meanwhile ‘Barbara’ can relax in the knowledge that all of her children will be given important titles and some of her descendents would become famous including Diana Princess of Wales.  Soon it would be time to go back to guiding tourists arond the palace.
