The Lecht Road
Lots of snow falling till we got to lower ground.
After a lovely stay in the Nethy Bridge Hotel we carried on our circular tour round the Cairngorm mountain range - which covers a vast area of Highland Scotland. It was snowing as we headed for Tomintoul (the highest village in the Highlands) and onwards to the famous Lecht Road. No doubt if you hear the winter weather reports you will hear that 'the Cockbridge to Tomintoul road has been closed'. As we approached the Lecht summit, with the snow falling much heavier, it was easy to see why the road gets closed so often. Once passed the summit the snow eased but you can see from the view that there was plenty of snow around.
We got to Braemar, famous for it's Highland Games which the Queen attends each year. The River Dee rises near here and then heads, passing the Queen's residence at Balmoral Castle, on it's way to Aberdeen. If you would like to see some photos of the Dee and others have a look at my Flikr Album here.
From Braemar we drove over the Glenshee summit, once more in the snow, before arriving back in Dundee in bright sunshine.
