Still time for daffs

Took my time walking around the village today, and there’s nothing more guaranteed to give the heart a lift than the splash of Spring colour like this.
Although daffodils were relatively early in bursting into flower this year, I am heartened to see that the collections in gardens, hedgerows and by the roadside  are still going strong, weeks after they first began to show signs of blooming.
Not only that, it means we have been able to sustain vases of them indoors for weeks.  Not the originals stems, of course, but we have been able to freshen them up with new bunches every few days.
So romantic or not in my old age, virtually each visit to the shops has seen me return home clutching a bunch and we have probably had more daffodils to brighten the house than ever before.
So it gave me a kick today to find roadside blooms were still going strong, and who knows, maybe we’ll get another week of daffodils in the lounge at home for another week?
Those I bought yesterday look good till midweek, and those in our own garden, like these, survived the ravages of the storms over Easter.

So long as they are still in the shops, I can see myself keep splashing out £1 a time to keep the mood of Spring alive.
