Pub Lunch
Just a quick bite at the pub on the way home today and nothing too grand.
Somehow, the crispy calamari wasn't quite what i was expecting, but it was tasty, and a little different from sandwiches or a ploughmans.
Whatever happened to the ploughman though. It was once a regular on pub menus yet in this part of the world at least, it seems to have virtually disappeared.
There are posh variations occasionally, but the straightforward hunk of cheese, wedge of bread and pickle appears to be a thing of the past.
But if you know of a pub that still has it on the menu, then I'll willingly add it to my list of pubs to visit.
In the meantime, back to my double helping of calamari. I had envisaged the bigger batter covered calamari rings - those that you might easily mistake for onion rings until you taste them. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed these and will undoubtedly order them gain as a quick snack. Along with deep fried whitebaiT.
Now you're talking!
