Breakfast with friends
The best kind. However, it followed a disturbed night, with Kayla barking her head off, making me think we were being invaded. I eventually brought her into the house and we got some sleep. Waking early, I let her out, only to have her start barking like a lunatic again. She wouldn't come when I called, and on getting closer I realized she had found some animal in the undergrowth. Then there was an agonized yelp and she went silent. I rushed back to get into long trousers, boots and gloves and waded into the bushes. To my relief, she wasn't dead or badly injured, but had a paw full of porcupine quills. I tried and failed to carry her out myself, then had to call the caretaker and his wife to help. After which we spent most of the rest of the morning extracting quills, a painful process for poor Kayla, so we had to keep taking breaks.
Lots of curry left over, so lunch was easy, then we gradually got ourselves organized to go back down to Rio. HH goes into hospital tomorrow for his hip replacement. Trying not to feel nervous (he seems as calm as could be).
