Primavera
It’s a small touch maybe, but these miniature daffodils planted in the grass verge on one of the main routes into Southampton, warmed my heart today.
OK, we are well used to seeing roundabouts sponsored by companies who have made it possible for them to be planted out with flowers and shrubs. But the sight of hundreds of small daffodils coming into bloom this week in the small town of Totton indicated that March really is the beginning of spring, and though temperatures were little more than 11 or 12 degrees and looked like dropping sharply overnight, to my eyes spring has arrived.
Daffodils in our own garden are still in the main to open up, but I noticed also in Totton today, some five miles further south, and on the upper reaches of Southampton Water that blossom on trees was also much in evidence, while at home, just those few miles inland that the blossom was still struggling to break through.
Even one spot I purposely visited with the aim of finding a Blip photo for this week, will be at least another five or six days before the blossom provides a picture.
But back to the daffodils of Totton. Whoever was responsible for planting these out earns full marks in my book.
