Skansen Open Air Museum
Today was Skansen's turn. Just simply a 'MUST SEE' when you visit Stockholm! The trip there is an experience in it's own right! You take the bus from close to the house where we stay with M&Z, and then you take a Ferry boat to the island! A lovely experience, to see all the beautiful buildings from the water.
The Lynx, especially 'smiling' like this one in R snr's picture, was my absolute favourite picture for today! ;-)
Skansen is the first open air museum and zoo in Sweden and is located on the island Djurgården in Stockholm, Sweden. It was founded in 1891 by Artur Hazelius (1833-1901) to show the way of life in the different parts of Sweden before the industrial era.
Please do check these pictures out!! It is just simply awesome!!
There are lots of exhibits from the era before industrialisation, whole houses and small industries have been moved there to be conserved for future reference. I always love to visit the Glass Blowing exhibit, and, of course, the open-air zoo containing a wide range of Scandinavian animals including the bison, brown bear, moose, grey seal, lynx, otter, red fox, reindeer, wolf, and wolverine (as well as some non-Scandinavian animals due to their popularity). There are also farmsteads where rare breeds of farm animals can be seen.
C and I stayed home today, we still battle with the serious coughing we started with about 4 weeks ago, and I think C has either cracked a rib now, or she must have a serious bout of pleuritis, since she has a terrible pain in the chest and really struggles to breathe comfortably and it is absolutely agonising to cough, which happens all the time! We are both on a new course of antibiotics once again! Eisch! We didn't mind staying at home though, since we have visited Skansen before! The two R's and A, as well as M&Z enjoyed it very much, since it is somewhat different in winter and we visited it in summer before!
