Stockholms Stadtsmuseum
The Stockholm City Museum was on the charts for today. A wee bit less exciting than with our previous visit in 2008 because of renovations at the moment, but still very interesting. The 'Kopparmatte' sculpture in the entrance to the museum is the chosen blip for today.
This austere figure with his executioner's sword and his rod, warned the people of the awful punishment that awaited those who committed a crime. The copper statue was mounted on top of the whipping post on Stortorget from 1647 to 1776. Koppermatte, sculptured by Jost Henne, Master of the sculptors' guild, and cast by Gert Meyer, in 1647.
There is a copy of Kopermatte in the Law Courts in Stockholm.
I noticed tonight that I forgot to blip for 11 December!! Please peep in, if you want, it is quite cute!!
