Poppies on parade

This field is on the edge of Thirsk. A few weeks ago it was lime yellow with the rape crop! It is a stunning sight as the poppies cover the field, not just appearing at the edge.
I had to pick up a few things for lunch in the town to take down to York as I was visiting my old friend again. She is more or less housebound and her mobility is very restricted. I offered my purchases with some trepidation and apart from the French stick (which didn't crisp up properly! She has been a superb cook and likes things spot on) all proved to be satisfactory. We enjoyed lunch with a glass of wine and talked non-stop. There's always a point where a few tears fall when we think of her late husband who was also a dear friend of mine. Then we laugh as we move on to other topics and so it goes on.
