Race For Life

Yesterday I set off on the bus to Loch Lomond where I was to meet up with our daughter for an overnight stay with her before heading to Stirling where she was taking part in the Race for life 5k walk. Well that was the plan but it became a race the bus farce as I had got off the bus at Inveraray to get a bottle of water. Didn't know the timetable had changed and that stop at Inveraray had been shortened to 5 mins. Got back to rejoin the bus at the stop just as it was pulling out with my case in the boot and my precious camera bag in the said case. Had to phone John who came from Furnace and we played chase /race the bus all the way to Balloch where our daughter was waiting , no sign of the bus so nothing left for us to do but to continue all the way in to Buchanan Street where we were able to pick up the case , jacket and book which I had left on my seat in the bus. Then it was back to Anniesland Cross over Maryhill Road to Bearsden and across the Stockiemuir Road towards Drymen , over to Killearn and on to our daughter's house. Got in in time to see the big game and what a treat that was. Barcelona The Magnificent.

Any way after a good night's sleep it was an early start to Stirling University where thousands were gathered ready to start the running and walking races. A wonderful atmosphere and a truly humbling experience seeing this sea of pink and realising that all these people very young and old had a story to tell about a friend or family member who had had cancer. Most of the pink tee shiirts had photographs of loved ones many of whom had lost family to cancer , but also many who had beaten cancer. A very emotional day with a wonderful group of big hearted people.

I was there to give support to our daughter who we hope has won her battle with cancer, to be there for her at the start and end of the race. Instead I was able to register at the very last minute and joined her in the walk. ... and what a wonderful walk it was around the beautiful grounds of Sirling university with the Wallace monument always in our sights.

A very fitting place for a walk whose motto is " Together we will beat cancer" So tonight's image is a shot of the monument taken as we went round the 5k walk.

We finished the day with a lovely well desrved meal at the Buchlyvie Inn and both have our medals for our big effort.

Well done everyone who took part.
