The common or garden Jarvis has two principal interests - travel and beer. The Jarvis prefers to drink his beer in major cities which have many Jarvis bars. There are many criteria for a bar to meet the requirements of a Jarvis - but speed of service is paramount. Jarvises do not like to be kept waiting when they are thirsty. A place with a crowd 20 deep at the bar is of no interest to a Jarvis, nor is one that has a queue to get in. The Jarvis shuns nightclubs unless everything else is closed. Bars that cater for very discerning tastes in music rate highly on a Jarvis's list, as do bars with no discernible name.

Because drinking in different countries is a bit like cultural espionage, a Jarvis does not go "on holiday", he goes "on operations". This journal will chronicle some of these operations, as well as list the Rules of Jarvisness and guidelines for would-be Jarvises. The only bars that will be shown are proper Jarvis bars, or bars that provide a lesson in Jarvisness.
