Beginning Again
New semester
New students
New potential
New challenges
New opportunities
When I rendezvoused with Mr. Fun later in the day after my class, his immediate question was,
"Did you have a First Class first class?"
I didn't have to think twice. I really did. The room was bursting with students and I probably allowed too many extras to stay, but I know that many will dropout of the class when they realize that the course load is demanding.
The last person I allowed to stay, arrived a bit late (students have a difficult time finding the room my class is in because we're located in an industrial area. They just can't believe an English class will be placed in that building). When I told her the room was already too full, and she couldn't stay, she replied with,
"I'm told you have a soft spot for returning students."
I was a little stunned, laughed, and said, "Really, who told you that?"
She replied, "Rodney. He was in your class last semester."
I took a long pause and said, "Please come in!"
I know that reentry students have a quality and a savy that my younger students don't have. They bring a lovely seasoning to the mixture. I have no doubt this student will be a wonderful addition to the class.
So when Mr. Fun asked his question, my instant response was, "Yes, I did!"
Thursday will bring the start to two more classes. I am hoping they are both First Class also.
My throat is on fire and my sinuses are full. I don't feel well. Mr. Fun was at the juice store getting me "a double shot of wheat grass" this morning at 7:00 and I was back there this afternoon for more. I'm hoping to keep this head cold from getting a grip on me. I'm hoping to win this battle. At the moment, though, I don't feel very well. So I'm headed to bed real soon.
Good night from Southern California.
