Shiva

This blip is a little mystical, spooky and weird all in one.

We went on a little tour today and our first stop was a Hindu temple. This Shiva statue looked quite errie in the morning mist (I'm desperately trying not to admit that it was chucking it down on our honeymoon).

That water behind him is a flooded volcano crater and is considered to be a Hindu holy lake. Hindus believe that it joins up to the Ganges and out of respect nobody has done any scientific study to prove them wrong. As a result, nobody has a clue how deep it is. I quite like that. So different to the UK, where it would probably have been dredged by now.

Next stop on or tour was a tea factory. Pretty tough job making tea and not one I envy but it was a fascinating place. Tea tasting was nice too. I highly recommend coconut tea.

Next visit was another rum distillery. The last one we went to, the rum was distilled with sugar, this one vanilla. Such a significant difference meant that some further rum testing was required so as to be able to identify each flavour's merits. Purely in the interests of science you understand.

Lunch was at a cliff top cafe. A couple of surprises here. Firstly this was a pretty beautiful spot but only seemed to accessible by first driving through the access gates to a power station and then weaving through a never ending a maze of track through sugar cane fields. Weird.

Secondly the views of the indian ocean crashing against the cliffs were amazing.

Last stop of the day was at a crocodile breeding place. Some big fellas there. All fast asleep and looking rather peaceful. Also some more huge tortoises (I mean really big, so big that I sat on one) and some other cool animals.

Great day all round.
