Really?
If there is a flood, they hide it well. Unless, that stuff that I took to be the sea was in fact a council estate. A sink estate maybe. See what I did there?
Liked the contrasting colours on this pic and the way the light caught the sign. Plus Becci, said she liked it best of the ones I shortlisted and she's my wife now so who am I to argue?
Had a stroll out earlier that turned into a bit of a mission. We took a walk from the hotel with the intention of seeing an area called Blue Bay. It was one of those journeys with never ending stretches of road and around each corner was another never ending stretch of road. We pushed on though and decided that once we arrive we'd reward ourselves with a refreshing ice lolly.
Now here's a problem with Mauritius (it's not the only one, I'll talk about the other in a bit). THEY DON'T SELL ICE LOLLIES! How backward is that? It must have been about 400 degrees. An ice cream just doesn't cut it in these conditions. Certainly not when it's that hard stuff, not Mr Whippy stuff and especially not when it has an entirely liquified flake dribbling down the side.
We did eventually find one ice cream van with all the classics listed on the side. There were Zooms, Twisters, Soleros, Callipo's, the lot. It was like a mirage. Too good to be true almost. Well actually it was too good to be true because despite advertising all the these frozen fruity wonderments, all that was actually for sale was more hard ice cream. Settled for a bottle of coke in the end.
The second problem with Mauritius is the taxis. They are not allowed to go near the hotel so instead they try to scoop you up from the main road whenever you walk anywhere. These guys will not take no for an answer. They'll quite happily cruise along side you with a queue forming behind them that would make the M25 look quiet and offer you "special price" or all day tours and then throw business cards at you. After what seems like an hour they'll drive on and allow the taxi immediately behind them to try their luck instead. Maddening!
These are my only two gripes. Oh, except the insects and their biting. They do a lot of biting. Oh and the sun which has been doing a lot of burning.
