most psa (public service announcement) employs visual metaphors to convey their messages quickly and effectively, and the one pictured here is no exception.
the hourglass is a visual cliche to express the idea of time ticking away, or more specifically, that time is slowly running out. in the top of the hourglass is the arctic of icebergs, melting away as the global temperature gradually creeps up. at the bottom is your average city, with the water level from the melting snow and ice inevitably rising.
as the sands of time slips through our fingers, the world as we know it could very well be engulfed by the deepening sea.
