layers of flavours
example: expansion diagram; "a very complicated dish"

analysis:
a foodie friend of mine posted this on his facebook wall shortly after we covered expansion figures in class. when i saw this, i knew i had to use it as one of my examples for discussion.
and yes, i believe this is just one dish, and not an entire meal - although, it looks so complex, it could very much be a 3-course dinner: the appy is sitting pretty on top, the soup is tucked away on the bottom compartment, and the main entree is nested in the middle; all that's missing is dessert. my mind was blown away by a dish that needs it's own expansion diagram - i can imagine when patrons order this dish at a restaurant, it arrives tableside, along with it's very own instruction manual in the form of an expansion diagram, laminated, of course, to explain each and every component. if the waiter had to explain it every time it was ordered, he wouldn't have time to do anything else.
to create this expansion diagram, they opened up the round capsule that serves as the bowl and plate for this dish, and hovered the layers over each other to show that they are supposed to be stacked on top of each other. then, they just used thin white lines to point to each ingredient and labeled accordingly.
i would love to try this dish for myself.
