Busy day - Snatched Photo
Busy day today. My work day started in Coppull, near Chorley but I had to make a fast trip to Lancaster at lunch time. With no time to eat, I was on my way back down the motorway to Skelmersdale for the afternoon. This evening I have been working in a local prison.
The photograph was snatched in Skelmersdale. Strange place. There are no traffic lights but the place is full of wide dual carriageways, with 40 mph limits, many, many over sized roundabouts, which all look the same, flat buildings, huge lamp posts and lots of grass. True sat nav country. If you haven't got a sat nav you would never find anything or get out of the place. Everywhere looks the same. This isn't helped by the fact that whenever you want to get to a building, you have to travel down a dual carriageway and go right round a roundabout, doubling back on your self, to get to the other side. It all leaves you completely disorientated. This fire station was the only thing to stand out in the vicinity. I don't have to go to Skem very often - thank goodness.
Skem, as it is known locally, was designated a New Town in 1961. It was designed to house the overspill population from Merseyside.
