When I'm Cleaning windows
The students are back, not in penny numbers like last week which I imagine was Freshers' week, but in hordes. They stand in long queues at the bus stops and fill the cafes and food stores with their presence.
The castle was near enough the billeting places for these students for their presence to be felt, but now the Dower House seems to be where the hub of activity is.
That is unless they are scientists or mathematicians, in which case they are propelled by bus to the further reaches of the town.
In my day there was a definite looking down on students who had lectures at King's Buildings. The place to be seen was Old College.
It's not that I'm jealous of their flawless skin, fresh complexions, slimness, long shapely legs and amazingly inventive clothing, it's just that I never realised when I was one of those students, how wonderful youth was.
I never had long shapely legs, rather more of the Queen Anne variety, but I imagine I was fresh faced and certainly much slimmer than now, and I took it all for granted. How I wish I had been more appreciative of my youthful looks and energy.
Still, musn't grumble, at least I still have all my own teeth and the Queen Anne legs have stood the test of time, although I imagine they are slightly shorter now after all those years of holding my rather larger body vertical.
Indeed they walked me into town today while his Lordship wandered the hills with his cronies. He hasn't returned full of the joys....... oh dear!
