That's how long my grandmother lived.

Although if I'm precise she's not really my granmother but my older brother and sister's grandmother. She was my father's first wife's mother. When my father's first wife died he remarried my mother and two years later I came along. We grew up as one big family and I was always offended when somebody pointed out that my sister was only my half-sister. To me she was my sister and I just happened to have three pairs of grandparents - so what?!?
I was always invited to all the big birthdays that we celebrated for Grossmamme and the last, her 100th was a very special occasion. It was nice to meet all the cousins and their children and to see Grossmamme who enjoyed the occasion and was "with it" most of the time. A small blip in those celebrations was for me when it turned out that a newspaper article of the local newspaper when listing all the grandchildren and greatgrandchildren did not mention me nor my children since I'm not bloodrelated at all.
I was glad to see that my name was included in the "death announcement" that I've blipped here. She was my grandmother just as much as my other two.

Today was her funeral and I did not make the journey since it was more important to me to have been there to celebrate her long life on her birthday rather than to celebrate and mourn it today. She certainly had reached the end of her journey and it was good for her to go.
