Lake Balaton

Landlocked Hungary calls Lake Balaton "The Hungarian Sea", and the reason is obvious. It's a huge body of water, with a surface area of nearly 600 sq km, and a shore length of 236km.... I plan to run around it in March 2011 in the Balaton Supermarathon. Over four days.

The water has the colour of jade and the texture of silk. At this time of the year the water was about 25 degrees.

On this day, when Ildi and I were running along the path at the top of the cliff, the heat haze was such that the far shoreline was obscured. The strange structure in the picture was once something connected with the treatment of the water.
