What are they?

In a friend's back garden in north London, there are some artistic pebbles and metallic rooster standing in two strangely shaped pieces of pottery. Ancient blippers may remember a TV programme called "What's My Line?" where a panel had to guess people's occupations. The most unusual job was probably that of a saggar-maker's bottom-knocker.

And yes, this is a pair of saggars!
