Looong Day

So this day started very early--the alarm went off at 2:00 am so as to get Emily to the church by 2:30 for her mission trip to Mexico. All the kids arrived and checked in their passports and all other important papers and then waited for Pastor Bob to arrive to lead them in a group prayer in the dark parking lot. They left about 3:00 am. They will eventually arrive in Tecate and build a small home for a needy family there. As wonderful and thoughtful as Emily is, at her age this is a wonderful opportunity to learn to give and understand others and to realize how fortunate she really is. I know she will come away from this experience a better person for it. She was soooo excited for the trip. There are somewhere around 14-16 high school students going with around 5-6 adults supervising.

I returned home to bed to reset the alarm for 6:15 so as to shower and dress and get Gracie to day 3 of the Mel Enze Swim Meet at Tokay High School. Since she was having some problems with her contacts (probably due to some recreational swim at the community pool without her goggles yesterday afternoon) we were a bit later than we had planned but she still had time to warm up before her races. She had entered 4 events but decided to add a fifth of 200 butterfly to finish off the day. She swam really well and took off time from her personal bests in several events.

After the meet, Gracie, Jack and I went to Ruby's yogurt for a treat and then came on home. I feel pretty good so far with the lack of sleep but it may hit me in the early evening.
