Good Deed for the Day

With the foreclosure rate so high, there have been many houses on our court that have been abandoned and then sold. The previous owner two houses down walked away from their home almost a year ago. It has sat empty all this time and the front yard became a favorite digging place for all the little boys in the neighborhood. After awhile, the bank that owns the house and was maintaining the yard simply gave up on it. The weeds grew and grew until they were almost waist-high. I'm sure the little boys loved it--kind of like a jungle--but in all honesty, it was a fire hazard and a neighborhood blight.

This morning Jamie (another neighbor) got out her lawn mower and attempted to mow the waist-high weeds. Doug and Grant joined her and helped with the weedeater and picked up rocks etc. This is a picture of Grant after they finished the yard sweeping up the sidewalk in front of the house. It certainly looks a lot better!
