Spring in the Candy Cane Mountains, Azerbaijan.
We stopped here on our way to Guba. From a distance the pink and white striped "Candy Cane Mountains" look quite barren. Closer up we found lots of spring flowers, though there's nothing growing on the coloured stripes. These resemble cracked dry mud (I wonder what it's like after rain?!) and have lots of conical fossils in them so I guess we are looking at sedimentary rock and former sea beds, but what makes the coloured stripes I've no idea.
