Sim (Simphiwe)

This is success for us. He was almost off the map when he came to SAEP and now has a very promising career ahead of him. As the Junior Trainer on the ADT Teach project he gets to work under Avuyile in delivering a service to the community which I hope will become a model for SAEP and corporate social investment in this area, and it provides him with a solid wage and the opportunity to study part-time. There are a handful of Bridging Year interns with whom I've become close during my time here, supporting them as they try to study and find work and helping them cope as best I can with challenging circumstances, but Sim is one who truly has a chance to make it now.

Since we supervise the day-to-day operations of ADT Teach, Sim and Avee spend most of their non-classroom time at SAEP, which not only helps them recharge their batteries but keeps the program aligned with the goals of education and positive change in these communities, and allows me to assist with the curriculum on an ongoing basis. To that end, and lucky for them, it wasn?t a hard sell for ADT to let them join us for the staff retreat.
