Dereliction, destruction...

Peterborough District Hospital was decommissioned in 2010, and has stood empty since then, gradually falling into disrepair. Some of the older buildings date from the early 20th century, but the huge concrete and brick monstrosity that can be seen on the right was built between 1960 and 1968. The buildings are now being torn down, ready for a new housing development. I never found it a very welcoming place and feel that the local area (and particularly the skyline) will be much improved by its removal.

This is my entry for Derelict Thursday hosted by Sarum Stroller. I've been at the computer for much of the day, after a bit of early morning re-arrangement to prepare for our the arrival of our new cooker tomorrow. Towards the end of the afternoon I needed to get out for a walk, and went towards town looking for something derelict. Most of the hospital site is now boarded, but they've kindly left a few mesh-covered peep holes, which enabled me to get this shot!
