A more sedentary day

The morning was taken up with a visit to the table top sale in Balivanich Hall - Christmas Markets in Germany eat your hearts out - followed by visiting another Grimsayer who has taken it upon himself to build a skiff. These boats are the Scottish equivalent of the Cornish Gigs and are increasingly used for racing between various island crews.
Robert got the kit and has almost single-handedly created this sleek boat having had no practical experience of boat-building before. The kit was nothing much more that pre-sawn sheets of plywood but after 500 hours of work it has taken shape. I think he was slightly disappointed to read in the instructions that when the boat is turned over - a stage he has almost reached - then half the work has been done!
After that a very leisurely lunch with other Grimsayers taking us through to 7pm and several glasses of red wine. An enjoyable feast. Sadly however it did mean postponing our maiden attendance of the fortnightly Benbecula and Uist Accordion and Fiddle Club sessions. Into each life a little rain.
