The wool churches
The large medieval churches of Lincolnshire, quite disproportionate to the sizes of the villages, were built with riches made through the flourishing wool trade. Villages vied with each other to build more splendid and grander churches than those in their locality. Today was the culmination of the Lightships Project and these knitted facsimiles of local churches were part of the exhibition. The project culminated with a film which featured a section with my fenland photos which I enjoyed watching on the big screen. There is also a book of the project which includes our bell ringing team and a page with a transcript of my conversation with the author about church clocks and local clockmakers. It was an Arts Council project celebrating the richness and diversity of cultural values embedded in this rural community.
