Whatever Caused This?

I spotted this perturbing headstone a few years ago, and it's mystery has lingered in my mind ever since.

I wonder what this wife and mother did, that was so bad that her name was chiseled from the surface of the stone?

I saw that many many children died in the family. hardly a single one survived. I doubt she was a child murderer. But it must have been bad.

After deciding to blip this, I think I will do a bit of research. It is strange that her name is the one which caught my eye, just because it wasn't there.
