Seeing Red ....

A mass of poppies and people greeted us today at the Tower of London.

We took the train from Bristol this morning and headed straight for the Tower of London (not helped by the closure of two stations on the circle line) following the crowds of people wanting to see the red of the art installation of ceramic poppies in the moat.
Each of these poppies represents a soldier who died in WW1 100 years ago.
The moat is nearly full but there are still more to be put in before Remembrance Day next Sunday.

It was fortunately another glorious day, crazy for the first of November, and everyone was happy and pleasant ambling along in the crowd taking the opportunity now and then to get to the fence around the moat and take some pictures.

Unfortunately for a good part of the way we were looking right into the sun, so this one showing a very small part of the installation and crowd at the entrance to the
Tower is my choice for blip as at last the sun is behind me and you can see the vivid red of these amazing poppies.

I'm so glad we went despite the numbers of people in the capital. I will put some more views on Flickr when we get home tomorrow if you want to see them.

We negotiated the closed stations again and managed to get to the V&A in time to sit outside in the late afternoon sun for a coffee and cake. Not enough time really to see much except the fashion gallery but it was a pleasant interlude.

Heading back we passed Natural History Museum where they have set up an ice rink outside with a decorated Christmas tree in the middle..yes the first Christmas tree I have seen on the 1st of November, on a day as warm as summer!

Back in Bristol, walking home, we were accompanied by the sound of fireworks as people were celebrating plot night; think we have had a touch of everything in these few days away from home!
