Playing with the Petzval Lens
Spent the morning in the Walled Garden getting to know the new Petzval lens.
Between f8 and f16 it behaves much like a normal lens and is remarkably sharp with superb colour rendering. However it is really intended to be used at wide apertures where the crazy background swirls and amazing Bokeh come into play.
It's not a lens to be used all the time but for certain subjects it will give a rendering unlike anything I have ever seen before.
I think we should try different things to keep the creative juices flowing and using this lens will certainly help in this respect. It is also a great talking point as a number of other photographers were asking me just what that brass thing on my camera was.
