Mono-Monday: Emotions
This Section 60 at Arlington National Cemetery, the "Saddest Acre in America."
Both of my parents were buried in Section 60, years before it was given that nickname. You only have to google that phrase to find stories about Section 60 in publications all around the world. It's the burial ground for more than 800 American soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The cemetery has always had very strict rules banning decorations on gravestones, but during the height of the conflict, they turned a blind eye in this particular section and allowed personal momentos of their lives to adorn the graves. It was an excruciatingly painful place to visit. Today, I noticed that most of those momentos have been removed but there are still many more fresh flowers and visitors than in any other section of the cemetery.
