Diary of an Edinburgher

The groomed look didn't last long, Arch...

It would be really nice if weather forecasts were accurate. Then we would not have gone off for a Water of Leith Walkway walk today. 'Cloudy' they assured us. Turned to rain and got colder and colder. Luckily, we had almost finished the walk and were at Stockbridge and the refuge that is Hector's dog friendly cafe.

The walk, the same one as I did a few days ago, Roseburn to Stockbridge, was very muddy this time. JR valiantly pointlessly tried to keep Archie out of muddy puddles, but eventually gave up.

A nice set lunch at Hector's. I like that place - there seems to always be a lot of locals in, including a couple of old ladies lunching (on their own) daily. The staff really look after them. After her lunch and glass of wine, one of the old ladies sat at our table while the barmaid rang for a taxi for her. She loved Archie, and so we got chatting. She had always had dogs, and had lived in Africa for many years. My bus came, I would have loved to have stayed chatting to her till her taxi arrived.

When we came back, Craig, our perfectionist path man, had finished the tricky edging, which really sets the whole thing off. Nearly there, but I'm hoping the forecast rain for tomorrow is wrong - more than a 50% chance of this. Then he can finish off with the grouting. If wet, he'll have to leave it.

At the moment, Archie is having his muddy legs washed and will be blow dried to warm up and get back to his immaculate groomed self. He's going to have to have a wee winter coat, as he gets quite shivery when he's wet.

St Bernard's Well in the background. He (Archie, not St Bernard) was like a black muddy smelly ball on wee skinny black legs. The joys of wet dog walks!
