Ghost of the old house

Like many older houses, my house has been through a number of changes. It started life as a home for workers from nearby Cave Castle and later became a shop (I know people who used to buy their children's shoes here) before reverting to a private house. Each change of use meant structural changes - hence the oddities such as windows chopped in half or deep recesses which once housed windows but are now part of interior walls.

The picture shows the place on the living room wall where the staircase used to be, before the hallway was removed to make space for the shop.
