If you can't beat them...

Solace Day 14: Female Mallard

I'll start with a moan. Blip ptovide a large box to type your title into but then limit what you can put in to about half the length - it makes no sense to me.

As we need to be off the boat mid morning on Friday we planned to moor in the marina over night. It would be a nice leisurely day with plenty of time to go slow. Oh no it wouldn't! I have mentioned our intermittent starting problems well this morning it was worse. The boat has a starter battery and a bank of leisure batteries to supply power for lights etc. The starter battery was absolutely flat, it wouldn't even attempt to turn the engine over. Do you realise you can't "bump start" a boat?

We ran the rescue organisation but they couldn't get anybody to us until after lunch! By 11:00 desperation was starting to set in, made worse by CC getting a phone call from the home her Mum is in telling her she had banged her head, was confused and an ambulance had been called. Then a light bulb moment. The batteries have a common earth so all we need to do was get a connection from one of the leisure batteries to the starter battery! Easier said than done but we managed, I was in the "engine hole" with a lead just and so reaching the battery. Chippy turned the key and she burst into life! we were off -wonderful! The emergency call was cancelled.

With so much going on I didn't get many good or unusual shots and I felt this was the best.

We made it back to the marina in time to get the diesel topped up and the other routine jobs done before the facilities closed.
