Singing and selling

A misty start to our first morning, but gradually the mist lifted and we then had a lovely sunny day. It being Sunday, we set off for the customary visit to the market at L’Isle sur la Sorgue. We browsed amongst the brocante stalls that line the main street and then crossed the bridge and wandered amongst the more usual market stalls. As it began to get busy, we headed out, but as we were leaving we heard the strains of some singing that we recognised and there was the lovely lady entertaining everyone with her Piaf-sounding songs. Mesmerising! Then I realised I blipped her last year.

As we sat in the peace and quiet of our house and patio this afternoon, we heard more singing, but of a very different kind. Looking down from the foot of our ‘garden’ we saw a group of young people singing, dancing, foot tapping. No idea what it was all about. The picture here shows the group, but it also shows how the house we are in looks down on the roofs of the village and how we look across at the tree-covered slopes of the Luberon mountains. The van roof you can see is on the road right below our house. This morning an ad hoc vide-grenier (empty attic) set itself up, with people selling a range of stuff that makes the brocante of L’Isle sur la Sorgue look very upmarket! Why on earth they set up right at the top of the village, I’ve no idea.
