At the Hayburn Wyke Red Neck Rally
Playing quoits with horse shoes, hammering 4" nails into
balks of timber, arm wrestling, flicking the tractor tyre and
other country games reminiscent of a country fair in a
Thomas Hardy novel are an annual event in the garden
of the former coaching inn and smugglers haunt - the
pub at Hayburn Wyke near Cloughton. Around £500
will be raised towards the £1000 which the community
have to pay to prevent closure of their village church.
Even the local vicar was to be seen flicking the tractor
tyre. There will be many a sore back and shoulder for
a few weeks but this is not a community to run from
a challenge.
