At Scampston Hall near Malton

The appetite for a light lunch at Scampston Hall was nothing if not enhanced
by a long approach up a leafy land where the parkland with its mature trees
were enclosed, as you might expect, with the traditional five bar iron fence which seemed capable of running any distance regardless of cost. Onwards then to the
Cafe where sandwiches and a glass of wine could be partaken on the terrace.
It had seemed odd at first that what might have been an extensive view across
the gardens was obscured by a grassy mound. Was it a place of burial or concealed
an old air raid shelter ? Lunch was hardly finished before the purpose of the grassy mound spoke for itself. The steps up the other side gave an all round view of the gardens and the terrace. For some reason, we seemed to be of more camera interest than the gardens from this viewing platform !
