Hamburg.txt - Day 3

Today started at about 1am as our Fortuna friends continued to celebrate/commiserate (who knows ...or cares) well past everyone else's bedtime. We were kept awake until about 3.30am, despite the increasing cries of "Ruhe" (started by Biggs - he is almost German now!). All of a sudden, at 3.30am, they seemed to leave. Robbed of any visual information, I was sure (hoped) they had been hauled off by the police. However they returned about 30 minutes later and we were entertained until about 5am, when despite lots of kicking of beer crates, they seemed to go to bed. "They" were loud Alexander, the slightly sobering and possibly Bavarian guy and the apparently cretinous woman, who was so drunk that she kept repeating stuff for comic effect long after it had ceased to be funny.

We fell asleep almost immediately and woke up, what seemed like 3 minutes later.

By the time we had packed up, one of our entertainers was up and about. I gave him a withering look as we wheeled our bikes out of the campsite.....that may or may not have actually made any impression on him.

Taking it easy, we had breakfast in Zellingen, just along the Main river. Arrived in Gmünden and considered taking the train because of my knees. However, the knees were better than yesterday and by breaking the day down into tangible portions (and the fact that we would have had to go back the 30-odd kilometres to Würzburg and then out again on another line) we continued and went from Gmünden to Jossa, then through Burgsinn, Mittelsinn and Obersinn (entering Hessen somewhere along the road - no big sign - totally disappointed!) and finally reached our destination of Oberzell just before 6pm. The campsite was lovely and we were made to feel very welcome.

Walked up the hill into the "centre" and found the recommended pub that did pizza. It was pretty good and the beer was great....as it always is after a million kilometres.

Asleep by 9.30pm.

Total for today: 96km
Running total: 385km
