Fishing in the Messina Straits

This is a boat designed for catching swordfish.

Note the very tall mast, on top of which sits the 'spotter'. It also has a very long nose and at the tip is the fisherman ready to spear the swordfish.

The saddest part of this story is that swordfish stay together for life so when one is caught, the partner fish gives itself up, not wanting to live alone.

Being the ultimate romantic, I don't think I can ever eat swordfish again. I've come over all emotional!
