Walton Library, Liverpool
Threatened with closure, 3/11. This library was built as the Walton and Fazakerley District library to serve the North end of the city. Fazakerley was subsequently to have its own library. Now the plan is to close both. This library also serves as a "One Stop Shop", providing access to all the council's services. It certainly seemed busy and well used when I visited today.
Inside the library there is a plaque in copper which reads:
"This library the gift of Andrew Carnegie LLD was opened on the 23rd November 1911...."
Our very own Carnegie Hall. (By coincidence we had visited his Carnegie Hall in New York in May.)
Opposite this plaque there is a modern notice which reads: "No bikes" and "No cameras". I got the message.
