For Dad

Today is my Dad's birthday. It's somehow our third without him, and it's always a very difficult day. Mum, Greg and I spent the day in the sunshine on the Suffolk coast, with lots of laughter and memories of Dad. We went to a favourite farm shop for lunch, then to Orford, Thorpeness and Aldeburgh. We spent lots of time by the sea, which can be so therapeutic. Mum and Greg were paddling when a sudden big wave splashed all up Mum's legs, which kept us laughing for a long time. Luckily she dried out quickly!

Dad left a huge gap in our little family. He showed me how to be strong, determined and independent. He taught me to think for myself, question everything and not suffer fools. He gave me a stubbornness to never give up. These things have all guided me through the last two years, but nothing can ease the pain and enormity of his loss and absence. He really was the best Dad I could wish for, and I miss him more than I can ever explain. I'm very proud to be his daughter.
