bucks life

Last day...

After packing and breakfast we got on the road at 10.30am and headed for Margate. We parked on the quay and had a refreshing drink under the shade of a pink Hawaiian parasol (see blip - yes it is me).

Margate looked gorgeous in the summer sun. The town beach was clean and busy and the water had enticed many into it. It surprised me. I liked the place.

We were only really there for the newish Turner Gallery and the 'Summer of Colour' Mondrian and Stephen Finch exhibitions. We weren't disappointed. The pictures and explanations of their exploration and development of style around colour and form were illuminating and attractive. The building is great and we were mainly allowed to take photos. Bonus.
We enjoyed a very nice lunch at the cafe before getting back on the road home at 2pm.

The journey was hot (28C again) and a little long with a couple of queues. We picked up E from her Dad's and I dropped them both off in Bedford before arriving back home at 7.30ish.

I then had a surprise but welcome visit from J, whom I haven't seen for over two years. Nuts.

I've also had a very generous and unexpected invitation to join some friends for a week (free of charge) in Pembrokeshire in two weeks' time. I've decided to go - a no brainer. I like this holiday (with added great weather) lark and need to do it more often!
