Wryneck

Went for a stroll around the valley today with a birding friend and saw this Wryneck. Sadly now extinct as a breeding bird in the UK, they are always a good bird to see.
In the woodpecker family, the Latin name is one of my favourites - Jynx Torquilla. No idea what it means but it always sounds impressive.
Otherwise we had to get the car serviced which is always a bit of an epic when you live 40 minutes from any shops but linked that with a visit to one of the many pretty villages around here and a wine tasting. Got properly told off at the wine tasting when we tasted the reds first and then suggested we might like to try the whites. We were back in favour only after purchasing plenty of both.
