Hey hey its sensory day
I decided today would be sensory day.
First we started with me having coffee. I've been pretty tired today, not two coffees tired though but close!. We had a black out last night about 930 pm, apparently a large amount of the city was without power. They haven't figured out why but it seems a major line from one power station to another faulted, power came back on at 1030 ish.
Harper decided to wake then and so I was entertaining him by the light on my phone and torches, I made animal shadows ( i can really only do a dog or a duck) on the wall. He didn't go back to sleep until near midnight then got up this morning at 6!!
The first of the activities was jelly! I made a lot of it, all different colours and they went silly for it. They pushed their hands through it and squished it between their fingers. All 3 played for ages with the jelly. A great sensory ( and cheap i mifgt add) experience!
I had planned adding some colouring to cream and whipping it up to play but I had already cleaned them up so I left it. Instead I put shaving cream in a zip lock bag and sealed it. Note- next time put the zip lock bag in another bag first before giving it to kids. They immediately squeezed it and popped it. Kanye and harper didn't like the feel but mar loved it, it is actually an odd sensation.
After that I got some clay out and they played for ages with that, making me things. It's the clay you don't have to bake it air drys hard. Marley made a 'basket' for his grandma.
This afternoon after lunch and watching toy story i got the coloured pasta out. I soaked different shaped pasta in water with food colouring the dried it over night on an oven tray. They absolutely loved it i think they played for almost an hour with it. When they got bored i unrolled butchers paper on the kitchen floor and let them draw with their paint pens except Kanye thought his body was a better surface to colour!
I made these sensory bottles for them to look at, i got a few little water bottles filled them with glitter, confetti or pom poms and water, super glued the lids on and just them shake them. Harper loves these. I also got some balloons and filled them with play dough, rice and cornflour. It was great, they enjoyed feeling them and squeezing them.
I took them out to the park to have a play late afternoon, we didn't stay too long as the wind was cold but harper enjoyed crawling on the bark. A new experience for him!
The last of the sensory activities i made was this glow bag. It pretty cool. I found a nz company that sells glow in the dark powder, tape, stones and paint. I ordered some powder and put it in a zip lock with some cheap hair gel, left it in the light and voila! Glow sensory bag! Its really squishy and awesome. Harper touched it a couple of times but was a little afraid of it. Kanye and mar love it.
Despite being tired I'm really happy i did all this for the boys. I hope that all the sensory things have some impact on them in some way.
