Benchmarks
At the start of the camino, the amount of distance needed to cover seemed daunting- there was no point in counting down. Rather, we (I) celebrated the success of each day and what it brought. This morning at 8 I reached the marker that indicated we were 100k from Santiago. Apparently it is appropriate to take a picture to mark the occasion. From this point on, things changed. There is now a stone marker counting down each half kilometer to Santiago. They are impossible to ignore, as are the new crowds of pilgrims who have joined to walk the final stretch. Despite this countdown, over dinner we talked about the conversations/ stories of the day and didn't focus on the number left. Commenting on the challenges and celebrating the success has been what the journey is all about. It has never been about the number. I'm fairly certain, that while posted here, this is not going to be a picture I frame.
